Why I Choose Safer, More Natural Products for My Home and Body

There’s something about a good heart-to-heart conversation, maybe at the kitchen table with warm mugs in hand, that opens us up to talking about the real stuff. And friend, this is one of those things that’s been on my heart for a long time.

You may or may not know this about me, but I’m a cancer survivor—over 20 years strong, thank you Heavenly Father. And in that journey, I’ve learned a lot about how precious our health is, and how much of what we bring into our homes, put on our skin, and breathe in every day can either support that health… or quietly harm it.

So let’s have that Table chat right here. Let’s talk about the benefits of choosing safer, more natural products—not out of fear, but out of love. Love for yourself. For your children. For the earth. Because I care. And I know you do too.

Wait… What’s Actually In Our Products?

It’s a little wild when you look into it.

In the U.S., the last major federal law regulating personal care product safety was passed in 1938. Meanwhile, the European Union has banned over 1,600 ingredients in cosmetics due to health concerns—things linked to hormone disruption, reproductive harm, skin irritation, and even cancer.

The U.S.? We’ve banned around 30.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Where did I get this information? You can look it up too.

What Do These Chemicals Do?

So many of the products we’ve been told are “normal” to use—cleaners under our sinks, lotions, soaps, laundry detergents, perfumes—are loaded with synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde releasers, and harsh preservatives.

These can do more than just irritate sensitive skin. They’ve been linked to:

Again, You can research to explore more:

It’s not about scaring anyone. It’s about waking up to the reality that we were never meant to live this way—surrounded by chemical cocktails in the name of convenience or scent.

When Did This Start?

For most of history, we cleaned our homes with vinegar, baking soda, sunshine, and elbow grease.

We cared for our skin with herbs, oils, and nature’s bounty. But in the mid-20th century, especially post-World War II (around the 1950s and onward), the chemical industry boomed. Synthetic chemicals began to fill everything from shampoos to floor cleaner. More = better. Fast = convenient. Scent = clean.

But at what cost?

Our ancestors didn’t scrub their floors with hormone-disrupting surfactants. They didn’t lather their babies in petroleum-based lotions. They didn’t need a cabinet full of harsh cleaners—they used what the earth gave them.

Why Make the Switch?

Here’s what I’ve noticed since choosing safer, more natural options:

  • My skin is happier. Less dryness, less irritation, less breakouts.

  • My home smells like real life—not artificial scent bombs.

  • I breathe easier. Literally.

  • There’s peace of mind. Knowing I’m doing my best to protect myself and the people I love.

  • It’s better for the planet. Fewer toxins going down the drain means a cleaner earth for our grandkids. WE are the stewards of the earth.

This Isn’t About Perfection

It’s about progress. About doing better when we know better.

Even one small swap in your routine can make a difference. You don’t need to throw everything out and start over tomorrow. Just begin. One product, one room, one day at a time.

Because Our Kids Deserve Better

I think about the little ones growing up in this chemical storm and my heart aches. So many kids today are facing allergies, asthma, hormone imbalances, and chronic issues at rates we’ve never seen before. Our choices at home matter.

Let’s raise them in homes filled with fresh air, nourishing lotions, and nature’s goodness—not artificial fragrances and toxins we can’t pronounce.

Let’s Get Back to What God Gave Us

He gave us plants. Water. Oils. Herbs. Minerals. Things that heal, comfort, and clean—without all of the side effects.

I truly believe the closer we get to creation, the closer we get to the heart of the Creator.

We were never meant to be soaked in synthetics. Let’s clean like our grandmothers. Let’s return to the wisdom that came before marketing campaigns and convenience culture.

Let’s choose love over labels.

If you’ve made the switch to safer products, I’d love to hear what your favorites are! Let’s learn from each other, share tips, and support one another in this journey.

Because I care. For your body, your babies, your home, and your heart.

Cheers to fresh air,

XO, Marie
